Privacy policy

Last updated: 2026-05-07

Draft notice. This document is awaiting independent legal review. The substantive description of the service in §1 and §2 is current as of the Phase 2A refactor; other sections remain template boilerplate pending counsel sign-off.

What we collect

When you use CanadaPaths we collect:

  • Account information: email, name (first/last), and a hashed password if you sign up.
  • Profile information you submit: the answers you provide in the eligibility-check form.
  • Eligibility check outputs and Q&A history: the deterministic eligibility report generated from your profile, and any chat conversations.
  • Technical data: IP address, browser/device information, and access timestamps used for rate limiting and abuse prevention.

Why we collect it

  • To generate your eligibility check and answer information questions.
  • To save and re-display your past eligibility checks when you sign in.
  • To prevent abuse and protect service availability.
  • To respond to your support requests.

Who we share it with

We share the minimum necessary data with the following service providers:

  • Supabase — authentication and database hosting (your account data and saved checks).
  • Anthropic (Claude API) — large-language-model inference (your profile data is sent to the model that parses your profile; chat messages are sent during Q&A).

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.

Data retention

Saved checks and conversation history are retained while your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time.

Your rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, and to withdraw consent. Email support@canadapaths.example to exercise any of these rights.

Sponsored partner services

CanadaPaths displays sponsored cards for newcomer services (banking, language testing, credential assessment, insurance, money transfer) outside the eligibility-check output. These cards are clearly labeled "Sponsored". When you click one, we record the click (with your IP address and browser fingerprint hashed, not stored in raw form), redirect you to the partner, and may receive a commission if you sign up with them. Partner selection does NOT depend on your eligibility-check result.

Aggregate research participation (opt-in)

CanadaPaths offers an OPTIONAL aggregate-research program. Participation is off by default. When you opt in, your profile data is included in pre-aggregated statistical reports that group at least 20 people per bucket (k-anonymity). The reports are sold or distributed to settlement agencies, schools, employers, and researchers. Your individual profile is never published or shared in raw form. You can withdraw consent at any time — withdrawal applies to FUTURE reports; past reports cannot be retracted.

Children

CanadaPaths is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above.
